When planning the interior design of your brand  new home, choosing the right appliances is key!

Obviously, appliances are something that is absolutely needed. These include your fridge and stove, dishwasher and microwave, among others. But your appliances aren’t just for function, they can make or break the look of your home as well. Not to mention, appliances aren’t cheap! You’ve invested time and money into your new home, and now you will be investing into appliances that not only look good, but will last as long as possible!

In addition, there are other factors to consider when choosing the right appliances. There are high end designer appliances, lower cost models, energy efficient appliances, and so much more!

Here are some tips to help make this process a little easier!

Refrigerators

Of course you want your fridge to look good. You may have an idea already that you want stainless steel (this is the number one choice for kitchen appliances in 2015).

It’s quite easy to find a beautiful fridge, but there are many things you have to think about. There are several styles of refrigerators, so you’ll have to think about the size of your family, how often you’re at home (if this is your primary home, you would obviously be filling your fridge a lot more than if this is your vacation, or secondary home). For those who may leave for the week, and just be spending the weekends at your new cottage, there are models that are able to preserve food longer! If you are building a Timber Block home, you care about energy efficiency. Be sure to ask your salesperson how energy efficient your refrigerator is.

Another thing to think about: do you want a separate wine fridge? Be sure to build for space to accommodate one.

Stoves/Ovens

First and foremost, you will have to decide if you want a cook top stove, and separate built in oven, rather than the traditional stove/oven combination.

Also, if you are an avid baker, and you use your oven a lot, this may make a difference. For example, experienced cooks may choose to use a convection oven because they typically have a more even distribution of heat.

Another very important factor: do you want gas or electric? If you want a gas stove, you’ll have to make sure there’s a line put in to accommodate a gas stove.

Dishwashers

Your choice of dishwasher may also depend on how much you will use it, and how big your family is!

There are also many different qualities of dishwashers. Some are much more energy efficient than others. Again, be sure to ask your sales person/dealer.
