When you make the decision to build your own home, something everyone wants to know is the length of time it takes before you are living comfortably in it. (Of course, even before you start, you can almost imagine yourself looking out the window with the cup of steaming hot coffee, in the morning sunlight, with your most comfy slippers on…etc, etc) But how long does the entire process take?

Your first step in estimating the length of time is to decide what type home you want to build. If you are going to go ahead with a traditional log home, it could take up to 1 to 2 years. Overall, a Timber Block home will be built MONTHS sooner. (and about 60 days sooner than a standard stick built home)

Here is a sneak peak of the steps you would take when building a Timber Block Ecological Home….

1. Finding and purchasing your land.

2. Choosing your floor plan. Timber Block has dozens of stock plans for you to choose from, in 4 different series, Classic, Vintage, Contemporary, and Vintage. Keep in mind, we can customize any of our floor plans (at no extra cost) or we can build from your ideas. (Our architects have actually created floor plans from customers who came with their inspirations sketched on a paper napkin!!)

3. The next part is up to us. Once you have signed off on your floor plan, your home will go into production. Your logs are insulated, sanded, stained, stacked and bonded together under 6000 pounds of pressure, and thru-bolted every 2 feet. The production timeline, typically may be around 10 weeks.

Meanwhile……you and your builder will be busy getting your foundation ready for us to deliver!

Now, comes the extra fun part. Your home is delivered. (Likely on one truck…depending on the size!)

Then, you will watch your walls go up….in about a day. Yes, one day. (If you haven’t seen a Timber Block wall raising, we highly suggest you contact us to find out when and where there will be a wall raising in your area – it’s quite a site to see – in fact, we’ve seen many customers in tears, as they literally watched their dream come true in hours!)

After this, your home will be dried in. (About 10 days).

Another fun part is on the way….as you and your builder get to finish the interior and decorate it the way you want! (The interior work on a Timber Block home is the same as any standard traditional stick-built home) This time will depend on how fast you complete the inside of your home.
