A very important part of the process of building your own home is finding the right builder. While it might sound overwhelming if you don’t know any builders in your area, it’s not. Researching, and asking many questions will lead you to a great builder that will deliver the result you expect!

Here are a few things you could do to get on the right track:

Research local builders. Asking family or friends, neighbors, or people you meet is an excellent start. It’s very important when you do contact potential builders, you ask many (and the right!) questions.

Testimonials
will be key. Your builder should be able to provide many testimonials – you want to talk with people who have been in the same boat as you. You want to know how the process went for them, and if the end result was what they expected. As well, find out if they had any problems, and if so, how they were handled!

It’s always a good idea to find out how long they have been building in your area.

Your builder should also help with many things such as choosing the land, access to your utilities, including the location of public utilities, the proper size your home should be to fit with the dimensions of the lot, window placement, etc.

The builder will also be able to find out if there are any obstacles like ponds, streams, cliffs, trees and more.

At Timber Block, we do have a list of preferred builders throughout the country. We also work very closely with many builders and have great relationships in the industry. Plus, when homeowners build a Timber Block home, we always provide a technician that works very closely with the builder, beforehand, the entire wall raising, and after as well!
