Interior Design: Who Are You?
The interior design stage of home building is probably the most exciting-but it can be the most challenging for some. Trying to figure out who you are when it comes to your home reflecting “you”, can be a bit difficult for some (and some people just have a knack for interior design!)
There are a few things you can do to make the process easier:
Hire an interior design professional. An interior design professional does this sort of thing for a living. If you decide to go this way, you will have to help out though. They are not mind readers, and they will have to get to know you! To get the ultimate desired results when it comes to the interior design of your home, be sure to let your interior design professional “in”. Let them know who you are, what you like, what you don’t, etc. Showing them photos of homes you like will help too.
In addition, picking the “right” interior design professional is important. Just like we always say, choosing the right builder is important, so is finding the right interior design professional. Doing your research, getting quotes from several, ask for testimonials, have them show you photos of some of the work they’ve done, etc, is important.
Now, let’s say you have no interest in hiring an interior design professional. Now what? Research, google, surf the internet for photos, ask your friends and family. You can even get a program that allows you to try out a few things to take a peak at final results.
Also, attend open houses! Visit models! Find out your style-are you modern and contemporary or are you classic and traditional? Visiting model homes, and scouting out open houses will definitely help. Who doesn’t love peaking in other homes and seeing what others have done to their interiors? That’s exactly what show homes are for! (And you don’t have to feel bad for peaking!)
Timber Block has several model homes throughout the U.S. and Canada, plus we have open houses all the time.
