Part of the process Timber Block home owners go through when building the home they’ve always wanted, is the interior design. As any home owner knows, this is so important – you’ve waited for the moment you move into your dream home, you want it to be as perfect as possible!

The kitchen is certainly one of the most important rooms in your house. It’s where you spend plenty of time, gather around with family, entertain with friends. So, today – we’re going to talk kitchen interiors.

Here are some kitchen interior tips to help get you started on how to achieve your ideal end result:

Part of your kitchen interior design will start early, preferably during the floor plan design. For example, think about where your kitchen will be placed – this will help determine where your windows should go, the size, etc. Some people want a large kitchen window to look out of over their sink. Some want their kitchen to face a wall of windows from an open living room. Natural light and window placing is key to your kitchen interior design.

Kitchens look different now! A long time ago, kitchens were small, “boxed in”. Today, people want large, open kitchens. The kitchen is more than just functional in most of today’s homes. Think about what you want in your kitchen, and make sure the plan fits YOUR plan!

Storage. So many homes have pantries these days -make sure you have plenty of storage, whether that’s found in your pantry or your cabinets.

Islands. You barely ever see homes without an island these days. This allows the home owner to have a more casual space to have coffee, lunch or a quick dinner. An island allows for a fun hang out space! Be sure to think about whether you want your island to have storage space as well.

Appliance set up. Really think about this. Have a good plan for this. Do you want your sink close to your stove top? Maybe you want your sink as part of your island, and have a pasta arm installed over your stove top.

Cabinets. Do you want upper cabinets? Upper cabinets look great, and create more storage as well. The color: do as much research as you can, ask your builder, get advice. You want the color of your cabinets to fit in your dream kitchen.

Countertops. While granite seems to be the most popular countertop material, there are plenty of options!

Flooring. Timber Block home owners do usually have wood floors in their kitchen as well. Our home owners love the look and feel of wood, and many choose to continue their wood flooring into their kitchen. Some people, however, do choose to add in mixed materials, and may tile their kitchen floors.
